Reviews of The Tyringham Arms
The Tyringham Arms is proud to have a glowing review from Georgina Dale, reporter for the local St Ives newspaper
'The Cornish Guardian' and would like to share it with you...
I had heard so much about the fabled carvery at the Tyringham Arms near St Ives - it has been recommended to me many times by locals who sing its praises.
As it serves a full carvery every evening and all day on Sundays, there was little or no excuse not to try it.
I really cannot say enough good things about it - the outstanding meal, the over whelming desserts and the fact that the staff and owners were some of the nicest people I have ever encountered in a restaurant all contributed to one of the best nights out I have enjoyed in a very long time.
The Tyringham Arms is based in an old school on the St Ives holiday route. It has a light and airy interior, with high vaulted ceilings and the walls inside are adorned with large canvases of striking, yet unobtrusive artwork.
Having placed our order with the friendly barman, whose advice was "don't worry about not getting to have a dessert - we do boxes so you can take it home", we strode non-chalantly to the serving area, confident in our hearty appetities.
We were greated by the chef, a jolly and personable man who spoke to us as though we were the best of friends. Being unable to choose between them, he happily carved me door-stops of all three different types of meat - pork, beef and chicken.
My fiance opted for the vegetarian version, which came in the form of an enormous slice of leek and potato pie.
We then set about choosing accompanying vegetables from a wide choice of local produce - caramelised parsnips, buttery and crispy roast potatoes and salt and papper crusted new potatoes all found their way on to our plates.
Everything tasted beautiful. Looking around the restaurant we were not alone in our opinion and could overhear a barrage of compliments from other diners, who ranged from couples to family groups.
We were both defeated by our meals, and despite the best of intentions to leave room for dessert, we failed. However, we agreed that it wouldnt hurt to take a look at the selection anyway as there had been the promise of being able to take them home.
While we stood admiring the array of tempting sweets, from apple pie with a caramel top to strawberry roulade, the chef appeared again to talk us through the offerings.
Confessing that we would be unable to manage the dessert until tomorrow, he produced two boxes and invited us to select our favourite to take home. Sensing my indecisiveness, he snuck us a piece of chocolate fudge cheesecake and some marshmallow chocolate cheesecake each.
Despite fighting our better instincts, we devoured our sweets for breakfast the next day and they were rich, sumptous and out of this world!
The Tyringham Arms offers a fantastic feast of wonderful food at a price that is hard to beat.
There is a special treat in store if you happen to become a regular. I would hate to spoil the surprise, but it involves the chef's particular skill for desserts to die for...
The warm and welcoming atmosphere complements the friendly staff who will make you feel as though you are the only person in the place. Make it your special treat on Sunday, or Monday or Tuesday or any night!"
